Custom Headers and Footers In Excel
At some point, you may need to create unique headers or footers
for your spread sheets. This is accomplished by clicking on the
Header/Footer tab on the Page Setup dialog box. Click the Custom
Header or Custom Footer button and a box like this is displayed.

You can enter information into any of the three sections by clicking
on the section. In this example, the insertion point (cursor) is in
the left section. Type information you want in each of the sections,
or you can insert the Excel codes by clicking on the buttons.

You may include text along with the codes. Instead of inserting
only the page number, you could type the word “Page ” followed by
the code for Page. This would appear on the first sheet as Page 1.
(Note that the space was included with the word page.) You could
type “Page ”, followed by the page code, then type the word “of ”,
followed by the total page code to have the information on the first
sheet appear as “Page 1 of 20”. The advantage of using Excel codes
is that the coded information is automatically updated when changes
are made in the spreadsheet. For example if you type the filename as
part of the header, it will not change if the file’s name changes.
If you use the code for the filename and the file’s
name changes, Excel automatically updates the code and it appears
correctly. If you use the date and time code, the
current date and time always appear.
