Drag and Drop Editing
Drag and drop editing is a fast editing technique to use in Word.
It moves the text from one location to another without using the cut
and paste tools. Select the word, phrase, sentence, paragraph or
paragraphs that you want to move. Once the text is selected, click
on that selected text again and hold the mouse button down. (Don't release
the mouse button.) You'll notice that your cursor has a small box
trailing along behind it. Drag the mouse cursor to a new location. As you move
the mouse, you'll see a line the same size as the flashing cursor
(insertion point). When that line is in the correct location,
release the mouse button. This is essentially the same as cutting
the selection from one location and pasting it to another location.
But its faster to drag it.
However, this is often confusing to people who are not good at
selecting. These users start to make a selection, get halfway, then
click on the partial selection in an attempt to complete it. They think they are continuing
where they left off, but Word thinks that they want to move the
partial selection. It does
move the half-selected text, creating unexpected results. In Word, you can turn
off Drag and Drop under the Tools menu by choosing Options. Click on
the Edit tab and remove the checkmark from Drag-and-Drop Text
Editing.
