Using the Quick Launch Bar
The Quick Launch Bar is available in Windows 98, ME, XP, NT and
2000. (It is not standard in Windows 95, but is added if you update
to Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.) It's usually located next to
the Start Button (though it may be turned off or moved). The Quick
Launch Bar is essentially a set of shortcuts that are easily
accessible from the Taskbar. One click on any icon in the Quick
Launch Bar starts the associated program. During Installation, some
programs automatically add an icon to the Quick Launch Bar. However
you can add, move, or delete the icons, modifying the Quick Launch
Bar to meet your
needs. If you do not have a Quick Launch Bar, you may need to turn
it on. Right-click on your Taskbar. A menu appears. In
the menu, left click on Toolbars, then
left-click on Quick Launch. It is possible to move your Quick Launch
Bar by clicking the grey bump or dotted line at the beginning of the
bar and dragging it to the right side of the task bar.

| Adding
Icons |
Click & drag any shortcut icon
from the desktop to the Quick Launch Bar. A heavy black line shows
where the new icon will fall. |
| Deleting
Icons |
Right click on the
icon to be deleted and choose Delete from
the menu. |
| Moving
Icons |
Click and drag the icon within the Quick Launch
Bar. The heavy black line indicates the new position. If dragged off
of the Quick Launch Bar entirely, the shortcut is placed on the
desktop. |
| Extending
the Bar |
Click and drag the right edge of
the bar further into the taskbar. Some users like to show more than
the four default icons. If there are more icons than are visible,
two small arrows (>>)appear on the right edge of the bar (as
shown in the Windows XP example above). |
| Unlocking
the Bar |
In Windows XP, you must unlock the
bar before extending or moving it. To unlock the taskbar,
right click on the task bar and remove the checkmark next to the
"Lock the Taskbar" option. |
| Turning
the Bar On or Off |
Right click the taskbar.
Left-click on Toolbars, then left-click on Quick Launch to toggle
the Quick Launch Bar on and off. |
