More Keyboard Shortcuts
Here are some more keyboard shortcuts. (Click the links to see
others, including the Control key,
the Escape key, and the
Tab key .) Enter Key
The Enter key is generally a short cut for choosing the default
selection. (Usually OK). You can also hit enter to start a search on
the Internet or enter a web site address. Its faster than moving
the mouse to the OK or GO button on the screen' Start Key and Menu Key
Most keyboards have a Start Menu key on either side of the space
bar. It has the flying Windows symbol on it. This key brings up the
Start Menu. On the right side of the keyboard is a Menu key. It
displays the context sensitive right-click menu. Use the up and down
arrow keys to navigate the menu and the Enter key to make a choice.
The Escape key closes the menu.
Using Alt to Access the Menu
Did you ever notice that one letter in each of a program's menus
is underlined? The underlined letter is a keyboard shortcut to the
menu. Hold down the Alt key while typing the underlined letter and
the menu will pop up. Give it a try! Older programs (created before
the mouse was a common input device) had to use the keyboard to
access the menus. The popularity of the mouse has made pull down
menus much more popular, but good typists frequently still prefer
the keyboard. In most programs, the menu options are accessible
through the keyboard. If you are a good typist, shortcuts can be
much faster than stopping to reach for the mouse.
