Thirty-five
years ago, my Uncle Jim came home from Vietnam.
In all those years, he never talked about his time in the
service. Email got him in touch with several army
buddies and he had a reunion with his friends.
About that time, he pulled out photo albums and
newspaper clippings that he'd never shared with family
before.
I was struck by the fact that the newspaper clipping was
dated on my eighth birthday.
I remembered writing him letters when I was eight. That became the
basis for this piece that I called "Dear Uncle Jim". |
